What selenium does for your liver
Selenium is a trace mineral your body needs in tiny amounts but can't function without. Its main job in liver health is powering glutathione peroxidase — an enzyme family that uses glutathione to neutralise damaging molecules called reactive oxygen species.
Without adequate selenium, your glutathione peroxidase enzymes can't work properly — even if your glutathione levels are fine. Think of selenium as the key that starts the glutathione engine.
In Libertia Shield specifically, selenium is part of the triple glutathione strategy: glycine provides the building block, broccoli seed extract switches on glutathione production, and selenium powers the enzymes that use it.

At 40–50mcg daily, side effects are essentially non-existent. Selenium toxicity (selenosis) requires sustained doses above 400mcg daily — about 10× our dose. Symptoms of toxicity include garlic breath, hair loss, and brittle nails — none of which are expected at our dose.
Duration of use
Indefinite at this dose. 40–50mcg daily is well within the safe range for long-term use. The upper safe limit is 400mcg daily.
Situations where this ingredient is not appropriate
Already taking selenium supplements: Check your total selenium intake from all sources. The upper safe limit is 400mcg daily. If you're already on a separate selenium supplement, you may be getting more than needed.
Severe kidney disease: Selenium excretion may be impaired. Consult your doctor.
