How it works

What glycine does for your liver

Glutathione — your liver's most important antioxidant — is made from three amino acids: cysteine, glutamate, and glycine. In Libertia Lite, we use NAC (which provides cysteine) to build glutathione. In Shield, we use a different approach.

Shield's triple glutathione strategy works like this: glycine provides one of the three direct building blocks, broccoli seed extract switches on your body's own glutathione production pathway (Nrf2), and selenium powers the enzymes that use glutathione.

This alternative approach avoids NAC (reserved for Lite) while still effectively supporting glutathione levels through a complementary pathway. Glycine also has mild calming and liver-protective effects of its own.

Part of The 4-System Protocol™ In Libertia Shield, glycine is part of "System 2: Rebuild your body's main defence" — the triple glutathione strategy designed for active drinkers.

Best timing for maximum benefit

😴
Mild calming effect

Take whenever you remember.
Food interactions

Foods that help or hinder absorption

Foods that help (take WITH these): No specific requirements. Glycine absorbs well with any food.
Be careful with these: No significant food interactions.

Glycine is found in protein-rich foods (meat, fish, dairy, legumes) and is also produced by your body. Supplementation adds to what you already have.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Glycine

Why glycine instead of NAC in Shield?+
NAC is reserved for Lite within the Libertia portfolio. Shield uses an alternative glutathione-building strategy — glycine as the building block, broccoli seed extract as the production activator, and selenium as the enzyme cofactor. This avoids ingredient overlap and keeps each product distinct.
Will glycine make me sleepy?+
At 300mg, most people don't notice any sedative effect. Glycine does have mild calming properties — some studies use 3,000mg (10× our dose) as a sleep aid. If you're sensitive, you might notice slightly improved sleep quality, which most drinkers would consider a benefit.
