How broccoli seed extract helps your liver
Broccoli seeds contain a compound called glucoraphanin, which your body converts into sulforaphane. Sulforaphane is one of the most powerful natural activators of the Nrf2 pathway — a cellular switch that turns on your body's own antioxidant production genes.
When Nrf2 is activated, your cells ramp up production of protective enzymes including glutathione — the liver's master antioxidant that alcohol depletes. This is different from simply providing a glutathione building block (which glycine does). Broccoli seed extract tells your cells to make MORE glutathione.

Food interactions
Foods that help or hinder absorption
Foods that help (take WITH these): Eating cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower) alongside the supplement may enhance sulforaphane conversion due to the myrosinase enzyme in these vegetables.
Be careful with these: No significant food interactions. Cooking destroys myrosinase in food, but the supplement provides glucoraphanin in a form that your gut bacteria can convert.
If you take any of these medicines, talk to your doctor first
Thyroid medications
Cruciferous vegetable compounds (including glucoraphanin) may theoretically affect thyroid function in very high doses. At 100–200mg extract, this is very unlikely, but mention it to your doctor if you're on thyroid medication.

What you might experience
Rare
Broccoli seed extract at 100–200mg daily is very well tolerated. Mild gas or bloating has been occasionally reported — similar to eating a lot of broccoli. Usually temporary.

Who should avoid it
Situations where this ingredient is not appropriate
Severe thyroid disorders: Very high doses of cruciferous compounds may affect thyroid function. At our dose, the risk is negligible, but if you have severe hypothyroidism, mention it to your doctor.
Pregnant or breastfeeding: Limited data on concentrated sulforaphane precursors during pregnancy. Consult your obstetrician.

Why broccoli seeds and not just eating broccoli?+
Broccoli seeds contain 20–100× more glucoraphanin than mature broccoli heads. You'd need to eat roughly 500g of raw broccoli daily to get the same amount of sulforaphane precursor in one Shield capsule. Plus, cooking destroys much of the active compound in food.
Is this the same as sulforaphane supplements?+
Related but different. We use glucoraphanin (the precursor), which your body converts into sulforaphane. Some supplements sell direct sulforaphane, but it's less stable. Glucoraphanin is the more reliable delivery form with better shelf stability.
