How it works
How Berbevis® differs from standard berberine
Standard berberine HCl (used in Renew and Classic) has a fundamental absorption problem — studies suggest only about 5% reaches your bloodstream. The rest passes through your gut unabsorbed, often causing stomach upset along the way.
Berbevis® by Indena wraps berberine in a phospholipid layer — the same material your cell walls are made of. Pharmacokinetic studies suggest this may improve absorption approximately 5 times, meaning more berberine reaches your liver with a smaller raw dose.
Because more berberine is absorbed and less sits in your gut, Berbevis® tends to cause fewer stomach side effects than standard berberine — a meaningful advantage for patient compliance over a 6–12 month course.
Part of The 4-System Protocol™ In Libertia Pro, Berbevis® plays the "System 3: Fix the metabolism driving it" role with enhanced delivery — potentially providing stronger metabolic correction than the standard berberine in Classic.
When to take it
Best timing for maximum benefit
🍽️
With food (critical)
Always take with a meal containing some fat. This is critical for both absorption and stomach tolerance — even more so than with standard berberine because more active compound reaches your bloodstream.
🔄
Split across two meals
Pro is taken twice daily. Split between breakfast and your biggest meal.

Missed a dose?
Take with your next meal. Don't double up.
Food interactions
Foods that help or hinder absorption
Foods that help (take WITH these): Any fat-containing meal. Normal Indian meals with oil, ghee, or dahi are sufficient.
Be careful with these: Same cautions as standard berberine: grapefruit juice may increase absorption further (potentially increasing side effects). Alcohol on the same day may cause blood sugar to drop more than expected.
If you take any of these medicines, talk to your doctor first
Metformin
Both may lower blood sugar. Because Berbevis® delivers more berberine to your bloodstream than standard berberine, this interaction may be more pronounced with Pro than with Renew or Classic. Your doctor must monitor.
High — doctor must monitor
Statins (atorvastatin, simvastatin)
Berberine may slow statin processing. The phytosome form may make this interaction stronger than with standard berberine. Your doctor should review.
High — doctor must review
Cyclosporine
Berberine may significantly increase cyclosporine levels. With the phytosome form, this could be even more pronounced. Do not take without transplant specialist approval.
High — specialist only
Ozempic, Trulicity, Mounjaro
GI overlap and absorption changes. Talk to your prescribing doctor.
Moderate — tell doctor
What you might experience
Less common than standard berberine
About 90% of Pro users tolerate full dose from day one (vs ~85% for Classic with standard berberine). When side effects occur, they're the same type — loose motions, mild cramping, nausea — but milder because less raw berberine irritates the gut.
Rare
Low blood sugar symptoms (if on diabetes medication), constipation (paradoxical), flatulence. Same as standard berberine but potentially more responsive to the metabolic effects.
How long to take it
Duration of use
Used as part of Pro's 6–12 month course. Not taken indefinitely. After sustained improvement, step down to berberine-free maintenance (Libertia Lite).
Note: Same considerations as standard berberine — long-term data beyond 12 months is limited. Course-based use is recommended.
Who should avoid it
Situations where this ingredient is not appropriate
Do NOT take if: Pregnant or breastfeeding. Soy allergy. On cyclosporine without specialist supervision.
Pregnant or breastfeeding: Hard contraindication — same as standard berberine. Berberine can cross the placenta.
Soy allergy: Berbevis® uses soy-derived phospholipids. If you have a soy allergy, use Libertia Classic (standard berberine, no soy) instead.
Transplant patients on cyclosporine: Do not take without your transplant specialist's explicit approval.
Before surgery: Stop at least 2 weeks before scheduled surgery.

Frequently asked questions
Common questions about Berberine Phytosome
Is Berbevis® worth the extra cost?+
Berbevis® may deliver approximately 5× more active berberine to your bloodstream per milligram, potentially with fewer stomach side effects. Whether that's worth roughly double the price depends on your budget and how aggressive your condition is. Classic for 12 months may outperform Pro for 3 months because duration matters. Your doctor can help you decide.
I have a soy allergy. What's my alternative?+
Libertia Classic uses standard berberine HCl (no soy) at 600mg daily. It's the soy-free Tier 3 option with good clinical support.
