How it works

What choline does for your liver

Choline is an essential nutrient — your body needs it but can't make enough on its own. Your liver uses choline to package fat into lipoproteins — the transport molecules that carry fat out of your liver and into your bloodstream for use elsewhere.

When choline is deficient, fat gets stuck in your liver because there aren't enough transport molecules to move it out. This is one reason why choline deficiency can actually cause fatty liver — even in people who eat a normal diet.

In the Libertia range, choline works alongside phosphatidylcholine. PC provides the membrane repair material; choline helps the logistics of getting fat out. Together they address both the structural damage and the fat accumulation.

Part of The 4-System Protocol™ In the Libertia range, choline supports "System 1: Repair damaged liver cells" by working alongside PC and milk thistle.

No specific time required
Morning or evening both work equally well.

Take with your next meal. Choline doesn't accumulate dangerously.
Food interactions

Foods that help or hinder absorption

Foods that help (take WITH these): No specific food requirements. Choline absorbs well regardless of meal composition.
Be careful with these: No significant food interactions known at supplemental doses of 100–150mg.

Eggs are the richest food source of choline. If you eat 2+ eggs daily, you may already be getting adequate choline from food.

How long to take it

Duration of use

Can be taken indefinitely. Choline is an essential nutrient present in food. Supplemental choline at 100–150mg poses no long-term concerns.

Who should avoid it

Situations where this ingredient is not appropriate

Trimethylaminuria (TMAU): Rare genetic condition that prevents proper metabolism of trimethylamine. People with TMAU should avoid choline supplements.

Pregnant or breastfeeding: Choline is actually recommended during pregnancy (higher requirements). However, consult your obstetrician about your total intake from all sources.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Choline

Can I get enough choline from food?+
Eggs are the best source (about 150mg per egg). If you eat 2 eggs daily, you're getting adequate choline from food alone. Many vegetarians and vegans are choline-deficient because plant sources are limited.
Is choline the same as phosphatidylcholine?+
No. Choline is a single nutrient. Phosphatidylcholine is a larger molecule that contains choline as one component. Both support liver health but through slightly different mechanisms. That's why Libertia products include both.
