How it works

Why tocotrienols are different from regular Vitamin E

Vitamin E comes in eight different forms — four tocopherols and four tocotrienols. Most supplements use alpha-tocopherol, the cheapest and most common form. However, research specifically on liver fat reduction has focused on tocotrienols — the less common but potentially more active branch of the Vitamin E family.

Here's the critical point: alpha-tocopherol (the common form) actually BLOCKS tocotrienol absorption. Taking both together defeats the purpose. This is why most 'Vitamin E' supplements are counterproductive if your goal is liver support.

DeltaGold® from American River Nutrition is the only commercial source with ZERO alpha-tocopherol. It contains 90% delta-tocotrienol and 10% gamma-tocotrienol — the two forms with the strongest evidence for liver benefits.

Part of The 4-System Protocol™ In the Libertia Softgel, DeltaGold® tocotrienol works alongside omega-3, CoQ10, and astaxanthin as part of the oil-based liver fat reduction and antioxidant protection system.

Food interactions

Foods that help or hinder absorption

Foods that help (take WITH these): Fat is essential for tocotrienol absorption. Without it, you absorb very little.
Be careful with these: Do NOT take alongside a regular Vitamin E supplement (alpha-tocopherol). Alpha-tocopherol blocks tocotrienol absorption. If your multivitamin contains Vitamin E, check whether it's alpha-tocopherol — if so, take it at a different meal, at least 6 hours apart.

Dietary sources of tocotrienols include palm oil, rice bran oil, and annatto seeds — but in quantities too small to reach therapeutic levels.

How long to take it

Duration of use

Can be taken long-term. Published studies have run for up to 1 year with good tolerability. No accumulation or tolerance concerns.

Who should avoid it

Situations where this ingredient is not appropriate

Do NOT take if: Do not take alongside alpha-tocopherol Vitamin E supplements.

On alpha-tocopherol Vitamin E: Alpha-tocopherol blocks tocotrienol absorption. Don't take both.

On chemotherapy: Consult your oncologist. Antioxidants may interfere with certain chemotherapy mechanisms.

Pregnant or breastfeeding: Limited data. Consult your obstetrician.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Tocotrienol

Why can't I take this with regular Vitamin E?+
Regular Vitamin E supplements contain alpha-tocopherol. Alpha-tocopherol competes with tocotrienols for the same absorption pathway and actually blocks their uptake. Taking both together means the tocotrienol you paid for doesn't get absorbed. That's why DeltaGold® is formulated with zero alpha — and why you should avoid separate Vitamin E supplements while on the Softgel.
Is annatto the same as the food colouring?+
Yes — annatto seeds are used as a natural food colouring (the orange colour in cheese, butter, and some sweets). DeltaGold® extracts the tocotrienols from these same seeds. The colouring compounds (bixin/norbixin) are removed during extraction.
