How it works

What ginger does for morning-after comfort

Ginger has been used for nausea for thousands of years — and modern clinical trials have confirmed its effectiveness. The active compounds (gingerols and shogaols) work on serotonin receptors in your gut and brain to reduce the sensation of nausea.

In Shield, ginger targets the stomach discomfort and nausea that are the most common morning-after complaints. Combined with prickly pear (which addresses inflammation) and taurine (which supports brain function), it forms the morning comfort system.

We standardise our ginger extract to contain at least 5% gingerols — ensuring consistent potency across batches. This is different from raw ginger root, which varies widely in active compound content.

Part of The 4-System Protocol™ In Libertia Shield, ginger is part of "System 3: Morning comfort" — the system designed to help you feel better the morning after drinking.

Food interactions

Foods that help or hinder absorption

Foods that help (take WITH these): No specific requirements. Ginger absorbs well with any food. Taking with a meal reduces any chance of ginger itself causing stomach warmth.
Be careful with these: No significant food interactions. If you already eat a lot of raw ginger (in cooking or chai), the combined ginger intake is still well within safe limits.
How long to take it

Duration of use

Indefinite. Ginger has been consumed for millennia. Supplemental ginger extract at 100–200mg daily has no long-term safety concerns.

Who should avoid it

Situations where this ingredient is not appropriate

Severe acid reflux/GERD: Ginger can sometimes worsen heartburn in people with severe reflux. If this happens, take with a full meal.

Before surgery: Stop at least 1 week before surgery due to mild anti-platelet effects.

Gallstones: Ginger stimulates bile flow. If you have gallstones, consult your doctor.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Ginger Extract

Is this the same as drinking ginger chai?+
Similar compound (gingerol) but much more concentrated. A cup of ginger chai might contain 10–50mg of gingerols depending on how much ginger you use. Our extract provides a standardised 5mg+ of gingerols in a concentrated 100mg dose.
Will ginger give me heartburn?+
Uncommon at this dose. People with severe acid reflux are more susceptible. Taking with food significantly reduces any heartburn risk. If you regularly experience heartburn from ginger in cooking, mention it to your doctor.
