How it works
What makes Meriva® different from regular curcumin
Regular curcumin — even at 95% concentration — is poorly absorbed by your body. Most of it passes through your gut without ever reaching your bloodstream or your liver. This is curcumin's fundamental problem, and it's why most turmeric supplements deliver less benefit than their label suggests.
Meriva® solves this by wrapping curcumin molecules in a phospholipid layer — the same material your cell walls are made of. This makes the curcumin molecule look like food to your gut wall, so it passes through efficiently. Published pharmacokinetic data shows approximately 29× more curcumin reaches your bloodstream compared to the same amount of standard 95% extract.
This is why Libertia Pro doesn't need BioPerine® (black pepper extract) for absorption — the phytosome technology handles it far more effectively through a completely different mechanism.
Part of The 4-System Protocol™ In Libertia Pro, Meriva® curcumin plays the "System 1: Fight inflammation at full strength" role — delivering anti-inflammatory curcumin to your liver cells at levels that standard extracts cannot match.
When to take it
Best timing for maximum benefit
🍽️
With meals containing fat
The phospholipid layer is fat-based, so taking with a fatty meal further improves absorption. Any normal Indian meal with oil, ghee, or dahi is sufficient.
🔄
Split across two meals
Pro is taken twice daily (1 capsule each time). Split between breakfast and your biggest meal.

Missed a dose?
Take with your next meal. Don't double up.
Food interactions
Foods that help or hinder absorption
Foods that help (take WITH these): Any fat-containing meal. The phospholipid layer in Meriva is itself a fat, so even modest dietary fat helps.
Be careful with these: Same considerations as standard curcumin — grapefruit juice may alter processing. Mention regular grapefruit consumption to your doctor.
Tea, coffee, and normal beverages do not affect Meriva absorption.
If you take any of these medicines, talk to your doctor first
Blood thinners (warfarin, aspirin)
Curcumin may have mild anti-platelet effects. Because Meriva delivers more curcumin to your bloodstream, this effect may be more pronounced than with standard curcumin. Your doctor should monitor your clotting time.
Moderate — more pronounced with phytosome
Statins (atorvastatin, simvastatin)
Curcumin may affect how your liver processes certain statins. Unlike Classic (which also has BioPerine adding to this effect), Pro's interaction comes solely from the high curcumin delivery. Your doctor may want to monitor.
Moderate — tell doctor
Diabetes medicines
Curcumin may have mild blood-sugar-lowering effects. Combined with diabetes medication and berberine phytosome (also in Pro), monitor your sugar levels closely in the first few weeks.
Moderate — monitor sugar
Gallbladder issues
Curcumin stimulates bile production. If you have gallstones or bile duct problems, consult your doctor.
Moderate — tell doctor
What you might experience
Uncommon (1 in 20–30)
Mild stomach discomfort — less common than with standard curcumin because the phytosome form is gentler on the gut. May include mild nausea or bloating in the first few days.
Rare
Yellow stools (harmless), headache, or skin rash — very rare. Stop and see your doctor if rash occurs.
How long to take it
Duration of use
Used as part of the Pro 6–12 month course. After sustained improvement confirmed by your doctor, step down to Renew or Lite (neither contains curcumin).
Note: Meriva® has been studied for up to 8 months in published trials. Long-term use beyond 12 months should be discussed with your doctor.
Who should avoid it
Situations where this ingredient is not appropriate
Do NOT take if: Confirmed soy allergy. The phytosome phospholipid layer is soy-derived and cannot be removed.
Soy allergy: Meriva® uses soy-derived phospholipids. If you have a confirmed soy allergy, use Libertia Classic (which uses standard curcumin without soy) instead.
Pregnant or breastfeeding: Limited data on high-dose phytosome curcumin during pregnancy. Consult your obstetrician.
Gallbladder disease: Same precaution as standard curcumin — stimulates bile flow.
Before surgery: Stop at least 2 weeks before scheduled surgery.

Frequently asked questions
Common questions about Curcumin Phytosome
Why is Meriva better than regular turmeric?+
Regular turmeric has about 3% curcumin, and even concentrated 95% extract is poorly absorbed. Meriva wraps curcumin in a phospholipid layer that may improve absorption by approximately 29 times. This means more of the active compound may actually reach your liver — which is the whole point.
I have a soy allergy. Can I take Meriva?+
No. The phospholipid layer is soy-derived. If you have a soy allergy, Libertia Classic is the alternative — it uses standard curcumin (no soy) with BioPerine for absorption.
Why doesn't Pro need black pepper (BioPerine)?+
BioPerine increases curcumin absorption by about 20×. Meriva increases it by about 29× through a completely different mechanism (phospholipid wrapping vs enzyme inhibition). Using both together provides no additional benefit and could create unwanted drug interactions from the BioPerine.
